FOUNDATIONS is a six-part video series from Worldview Academy that introduces you to the key principles of biblical thought. You’ll discover the importance of underlying assumptions, reflect on what counts as real knowledge, uncover insights into creation and human nature, and tackle the problem of recovering a truly biblical perspective on reality.
Pastor Mark has served on the faculty of Worldview Academy since 2002. His experience teaching worldview thinking led to his 2007 book Rethinking Worldview. As a contributor to the FOUNDATIONS series, he hopes that this tool will help us take the intellectual demands of our faith more seriously.
Each week, we will watch the episode together and then unpack it using the discussion guides below. You can download each guide in advance to review the material.
If you would like to join us for FOUNDATIONS, please register using the form at the bottom of this page.
Schedule
-
1. The Renewed Mind
Thursday, October 2
7:00-8:00PMEvery philosophy, religion, or attempt to explain reality ultimately rests on a figurative foundation. These axioms of our thinking are beneath the surface and often invisible. It takes some digging to find them!
-
2. The Secret of Worldview
Thursday, October 9
7:00-8:00PMWorldview is a powerful tool to make sure you’re building on a biblical foundation — a philosophical shovel to discover our underlying assumptions.
-
3. The Knowledge Problem
Thursday, October 16
7:00-8:00PMHow do you know? In philosophy, there’s a whole discipline — epistemology —devoted to this question. Because the way you decide what counts as real knowledge and what doesn’t will determine all the rest.
-
4. The Maker of All Things
Thursday, October 30
7:00-8:00 PMSome writers have a style so distinctive, you can read a sentence and know exactly who wrote it. That’s true of novelists and painters, and it’s true of God as well. He reveals himself in creation, and he reveals himself through the Bible, his Word.
-
5. The Human Condition
Thursday, November 6
7:00-8:00 PMIf you believe that human beings are basically good and that, left to their own devices, they’ll do the right thing, you will operate very differently from someone who believes, as the Bible teaches, that every person is corrupted by sin.
-
6. The Struggle Ahead
Thursday, November 13
7:00-8:00 PMChristianity’s biblical foundation is antithetical to every other system. It’s a foundation that supports the weight of reality as no other worldview can. Is it possible to rebuild on the biblical foundation today, and if so, how do we do it?
